About Electricity Rebate Program

During 2001, the Balancing Pool Fund will make payments to Alberta consumers of about $2.2 billion in keeping with the Government's Electricity Rebate Program. The rebates will be funded from the proceeds of the Government's Power Purchase Arrangement Auction held in August 2000 and from the Market Achievement Plan Auction, December 2000.

More than one million Alberta consumers are entitled to monthly rebates on their electricity bills of $40 for residential and farm consumers. Non-residential and commercial farm consumers will receive $0.036 per kilowatt hour for consumption of more than 44 million megawatt hours.
